Light Graffiti

For lack of anything better to say, this is cool as shit. Using numerous light sources (bike lights!) as paint, they create an image straight onto a camera lens using long exposure. I'll let the images do the talking though.

Beautiful and space-like, I'd love to watch the making of these images. You can see more here.

Bike Transit Center D.C.

Super exciting! Union Station in Washington, D.C. now has indoor, safe parking for your bikes! The new Transit Center is $1 to use for a day or $100 for a year membership and even has a repair center in it. You can read the entire article and get hyped via FlavorWire. I've been to Union Station and struggled to find a safe place amid the mass of bikes locked up outside. This is perfect! Also, news to me, "the DC region “has some of the nation’s worst traffic — but according to the latest American Community Survey, it also has the sixth highest rate of bicycle commuting, with some 87,500 people relying on bikes as their primary means of transportation.”

Morning Coffee

Saw these pictures through Trackosaurus Rex and had to share them with you guys. You can see the full set here, on the Flickr. But here are some of my personal favorites from a morning ride for coffee.

Green Friday

In lieu of being trampled to death or fighting a mass of bargain -driven shoppers, come to Oasis for Green Friday! There will be a Freecycle where you can find some treasures that we have accumulated over time and are giving away for FREE! We are hoping you could make a donation to Our Daily Bread for the free goodies you snag, to help the community food bank. Around 12 there will be a 12-15 mile bike ride around Fairfax and afterwords, stick around for some mini-clinics we'll be hosting. You can read the newsletter here.

Hope to see you there!!

Come to Philly for the Wack

So, heard about this through Prolly and had to post it here as well. Turns out Philadelphia is getting screwed by new anti-bike legislation. Astronomical fines for riding with headphones, on sidewalks and brakeless? Read the full article here and then voice your opinions.

Critical Mass

Everyone in the northern Virginia, D.C. area should head to Dupont Circle at 7pm to attend critical mass tonight. The first Friday of every month marks this event to celebrate bikes! So, if you're in the mood to socialize while riding around the city this would be the perfect event. You can find more information here on the D.C. Critical Mass Facebook. Look for Tyler, our awesome mechanic while you're there!

Here are a few pictures from the FB--

It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia

This isn't cycling related, per say, but we at Oasis Bike Works all LOVE this show so that is a good enough reason to post this. I scoured the internet for a clip from the most recent season of the gang getting into trouble with a cyclist but although I couldn't find that specific clip, always the optimist, I found a suitable replacement to share with you guys.

If you aren't familiar with this show NOW is the time to get into it. You are missing out big time not having it in your life.

Beacon House Giveaway

Over the weekend, Oasis Bike Works was able to give 40 lucky kids brand new Kona bikes courtesy of the Beacon House. The Beacon House is an organization focusing on the neighborhood Edgewood Terrace in Washington, D.C., dedicated to helping at-risk children and their families through education, cultural, recreational and athletic programs. Oasis Bike Works was happy to be apart of their program and be able to award kids a new bike. Below are a few pictures from the event!

Chain-L No5

So, while browsing Prolly Is Not Probably I came across this great picture and product. It is a "high performance chain lube" from a company located in New England. So if you're feeling classy grab yourself a bottle.

Knog N.E.R.D

If you aren't familiar with the name Knog you should be. They're a company out of Australia making lights, computers, apparel and other accesories. They have an awesome aesthetic and great design for their lights and computers (which we carry!!) The N.E.R.D computer they make is one of the coolest cycling computers I've seen. It comes in a 9-function and 12-function and in a variety of colors. Like their lights, the computer mounts using their silicon tension fit system so you don't have to use a single tool and you can easily switch it between bikes AND change position from your handlebars to your stem by popping the face out and reorienting it. The computer itself is a button, allowing you to easily manuever through the different functions while enjoying the rolling display of numbers.

Come in today and even though they are incredibly easy to install we can assist you in any way necessary!

Hold Fast

Hold Fast is a company of riders that created a version of toe clips and cages to meet their freestyle riding needs. Thus the Foot Retention System was born!  Whether you're a fixed gear rider, mountain biker, commuter or trick rider these, in the words of Hold Fast, "are the straps for you." I haven't ever ridden with these but they seem pretty cool. Might have to order a pair and post a video of my endeavors with them. Aaaand here are a few testimonials to set the mood:

Matt Grimes (Irvine, CA)
These toe straps were in a dream I had last night.

theunionjack (South Carolina)
I finally mounted mine last night- riding today was awesome. They're solid and easy to slide in to. I must say, easy transition from cages and straps to these.

Sean (New Haven, CT)
They are really great. Good fit, comfy, and my bike control increased drastically from straps and clips. Definitely worth the money! As they break in they just get more and more comfortable.

If you have any interest in the Hold Fast Straps contact us and we can help hook you up.
