Classy Helmets.

Introduce yourself to YAKKAY, a Danish company that lets you choose your helmet cover. You choose a cover, then a fabric and you've got yourself a pretty rockin helmet!

Reminds me of being young and running wild through my neighborhood, thinking I could do whatever I wanted and conquer anything.

End Hunger..

In Calvert County this April 24! This should be an amazing ride alongside the shore of the Chesapeake Bay.  There are five routes to choose from, from a beginners route to a Metric Century and for people who don't have a bike they even have a virtual ride using indoor cycling machines.
Calvert County also happens to be an awesome place to take a day trip to. I've been with a class and we went down to the water and found tons of shark teeth! Sounds strange right? But a couple million years ago the place used to be a hot spot for sharks and as they died and the climate and environment changed, their teeth remained buried by layers of sand and silt. Today, it is easy to find shark teeth there and going online you will easily be able to find the top spots to hit.
Tyler and I will be riding to end hunger April 24th, look for us in our brand new Oasis jerseys!

"Flat Out"

So I know what I'm doing this summer (just not in Australia).

"Flat Out" Teaser from FLAT OUT PRODUCTIONS on Vimeo.

The Australian’s call it Walkabout, a chance to escape from the routine, heading into the empty wilderness to empty the body and soul of built up trash, we call it FLAT OUT.

Using the simplest and cleanest form of transport, a Track bike. Four cyclists, meet at the Sydney Opera House in Australia, to embark on a journey into extreme terrain during dangerous summer conditions, riding a massive 1200km of road in only ten days to the city of Melbourne.

DIY

There seems to be a constant struggle to find affordable, fashionable and functionable cycling shoes. But thanks to Djcatnap you can follow a step-by-step tutorial to turn a pair of sneakers into the perfect cycling shoes. He chose some Nike Dunks but obviousally you can choose whatever you want! Check out the tutorial here.

Light Graffiti

For lack of anything better to say, this is cool as shit. Using numerous light sources (bike lights!) as paint, they create an image straight onto a camera lens using long exposure. I'll let the images do the talking though.

Beautiful and space-like, I'd love to watch the making of these images. You can see more here.

Bike Transit Center D.C.

Super exciting! Union Station in Washington, D.C. now has indoor, safe parking for your bikes! The new Transit Center is $1 to use for a day or $100 for a year membership and even has a repair center in it. You can read the entire article and get hyped via FlavorWire. I've been to Union Station and struggled to find a safe place amid the mass of bikes locked up outside. This is perfect! Also, news to me, "the DC region “has some of the nation’s worst traffic — but according to the latest American Community Survey, it also has the sixth highest rate of bicycle commuting, with some 87,500 people relying on bikes as their primary means of transportation.”

Morning Coffee

Saw these pictures through Trackosaurus Rex and had to share them with you guys. You can see the full set here, on the Flickr. But here are some of my personal favorites from a morning ride for coffee.

Green Friday

In lieu of being trampled to death or fighting a mass of bargain -driven shoppers, come to Oasis for Green Friday! There will be a Freecycle where you can find some treasures that we have accumulated over time and are giving away for FREE! We are hoping you could make a donation to Our Daily Bread for the free goodies you snag, to help the community food bank. Around 12 there will be a 12-15 mile bike ride around Fairfax and afterwords, stick around for some mini-clinics we'll be hosting. You can read the newsletter here.

Hope to see you there!!

Come to Philly for the Wack

So, heard about this through Prolly and had to post it here as well. Turns out Philadelphia is getting screwed by new anti-bike legislation. Astronomical fines for riding with headphones, on sidewalks and brakeless? Read the full article here and then voice your opinions.
